Orthorexia

Orthorexia (from the Greek orthos, "correct", and orexis, "appetite") is a term that defines an eating disorder marked by "an obsessive fixation on healthy foods". There is a strong attention toward the many diets on the market and an obsessive pre-selection of foods that, over time, can become dangerous.

It is a social problem that prevents the person from having balanced relationships with the outside world.

People are often unaware that the constant search for "healthy" foods and the impact on their own life can lead to isolation.

Those who suffer from orthorexia gradually start eliminating foods from their diet, considering them dangerous. The search for and selection of healthy food becomes an obsession, leading to eating alone and causing nutritional deficiencies that, in severe cases, can have serious consequences.

The underlying belief is that "all health depends on food": an idea that, taken in a rigid and all-encompassing way, stops being about health and becomes about control.

Attention to food well-being is a precious thing, but when it stops being flexible, social, and joyful, it is time to ask for support. Our team includes psychology professionals who can help you rebuild a healthy relationship with food, without obsessions and without guilt.
